My Review!

When it comes to cruising, I’ve experienced some of the newest and biggest innovations at sea—including Royal Caribbean’s stunning Icon Class. And while I love what a ship like Star of the Seas brings to the table, I always find myself right back where my heart is: Utopia of the Seas. In fact, I am about to embark on my 8th sailing on Utopia. For me, this ship just hits the absolute sweet spot.

As part of Royal Caribbean’s massive Oasis Class (launching its era in 2024), Utopia manages to pack a punch without feeling like you need a map and a compass just to find your stateroom. If you’re wondering why this ship has captured my loyalty time and time again, here are my absolute favorite things about it.

1. The Perfect Size

While the brand-new Icon Class ships are breathtaking, they can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. Utopia is in the Oasis Class sweet spot: it is big enough to offer an endless variety of entertainment, neighborhoods, and dining, but it maintains an easy, manageable flow that never feels chaotic.

2. The Boardwalk Vibe

The Boardwalk is one of my favorite hangouts, largely thanks to the indoor/outdoor Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade. It’s the ultimate spot to soak up the fresh air, people-watch, grab a drink, and enjoy affordable food when you want something different from the Main Dining Room or Windjammer, but aren’t looking to splurge on full specialty dining. Even better? The complimentary Dog House is right nearby for a quick, classic hot dog.

3. The Ports & The “Leveled-Up” Nassau Experience

As a frequent cruiser, I’ve visited a lot of ports, and I’ve grown to genuinely appreciate the ease and familiarity of the Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay run. When I can catch the CocoCay Beach Club at a good price, I jump on it—the sit-down lunch there honestly rivals some of the best specialty restaurants on the ship. Plus, with the introduction of the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, the whole Nassau day has been completely elevated.

4. The Mason Jar’s Secret Weapon

While The Mason Jar can also be found on Allure and Wonder of the Seas, the setup on Utopia is special. I love the southern comfort vibe of the bar, but on Utopia, you get floor-to-ceiling windows where you can kick back in rocking chairs and take in incredible ocean views while you sip. During the day it can be an incredibly serene experience before the bar gets hopping in the evening! It is also an embarkation day staple – eat lunch then drink an old fashioned at the Mason Jar.

5. Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar (The Secret Snack Spot)

Sure, the full specialty dinner here is fantastic, but here is a pro tip: you don’t have to commit to a multi-course meal to enjoy it. Their gorgeous bar and seating area are open to everyone, and you can order small, delicious bites straight off the menu. The space is stunning, and the upstairs seating overlooks the beautiful main dining room below.

6. The Expanded Adult-Friendly Casino Bar

Shortly after its debut, Utopia expanded the non-smoking section of its casino and added a large, vibrant bar right into that space. It completely transformed the area, making it a much more inviting, comfortable atmosphere for non-smokers who still want a lively casino energy.

7. The Solarium

One of my favorite spots on Utopia of the Seas is the Solarium. Located right at the front of the ship, this incredible adults-only retreat offers sweeping ocean views and a wonderfully relaxed buffet for breakfast and lunch. But the real secret is the complimentary Mediterranean dinner—a fantastic, quieter alternative to the Main Dining Room with amazing food. Just keep in mind that you do need to book a reservation ahead of time, a brilliant little hack I only learned about recently!

The Ultimate Hack: Back-to-Backs & Port Canaveral

It also sails out of Port Canaveral, which is usually a very efficient port and the most convenient for me. It gets your vacation started with absolute ease. Because Utopia of the Seas focuses primarily on short 3- and 4-night weekend and weekday sailings, I try to book a “back-to-back” to string them together into a seamless 7-day cruise vacation.

The Verdict

Whether you are stepping onto a cruise ship for the very first time or you’re a seasoned diamond cruiser, Utopia of the Seas is an absolute home run. It has something for everyone—and yes, that signature weekend party vibe is very, very real!
